How do I use create an application using another application as a "template" (in the same environment)?

I have a completed application "ABC". I want to make a totally new application "XYZ" that is a copy of the first one (use it for a starting point for an extremely similar activity). 

I exported ABC, and changed the name of the zip file, and tried to import. Of course, that didn't work. 

If I unzip the file, and edit the manifest.xml to change all references of ABC (find ABC and replace with XYZ), re-zip the contents, then import it, will this work? 

We are using NX v7.0 SU2.5
