Recognize the value of a field has changed

On a form, I have a dropdown field that will be already populated. I need to recognize if the user changes this value, in order to set a trigger field that will be used as a condition to email a user later. 

In InfoPath, I would have 2 fields (one hidden) that were equal at the start. Then if the user changed the value of the visible field (so the 2 fields no longer matched), then that would set a trigger field. 

Is that still the way to go, or is there a way to set my trigger field simply from the field being changed? I looked in the rule options and didn't see a when the field "is changed".

  Hi Gwen,

  I'm not certain if this will be exactly what you need, but if you set the rule to "is present", that should be a good replication of "is changed"

  You may still need to go through the steps with your helper field setup, but see if the above helps you out at all.
