Overdue notice

Trying to understand how overdue notifications work. 

My experience is that you set a due date for a task and once the task is created the due date is set for say 1 day. If the task is not completed by that time and overdue notices are setup, it will send the overdue notice at the due date/time. This happens only once.

My requirement is to have the notice go out at a regular interval (daily) to remind the person of the overdue task. It seems that the Reminder notification has configuration for intervals, but not the overdue notice. 

Does anyone have any suggestions?
