Why can't I get my formula field to show dollar signs.

  The formula field doesn't show dollar signs, but the currency field does. Add both controls to your form. Make the formula field not visible. Calculate your value in the formula field, then use a rule on the formula field to set the value of the currency field equal to the value of the formula field.
