Predefined List Has Too Many Limitations in V9.0

We have been using AP since V6.0. We recently upgraded to AP V9.0 and have discovered while updating a predefined list that you no longer allowed to include white spaces between words. Why is this? We have dozens of predefined lists that we use within our process-based eForm applications.
